Understanding is Power

Understanding is Power.

If you understand a system, you can predict what the outcomes will be given some inputs. You can tailor your interactions with the system to move towards the outcomes you want.

Your understanding does not need to be complete - even some understanding provides you with influence.

Example 1: Campfires

I have a basic understanding of how fire works. I know what it likes, doesn’t like, and have a better-than-average grasp of how much airflow it needs. As a result, I can make a campfire relatively easily.

When I was a teacher, the most common mistake was not enough fuel, for fear of “smothering” the fire.

Be not afraid - as the heat drafts up, fresh air will be pulled in through the bottom. Put wood on top!
